Creating links between economic activists in the Chabahar Free Trade Zone and three million members of the World Free Zones Organization (FZO) is only part of the advantages of the Iranian port city's membership at the world organization.

Samir Hamrouni, the CEO of the World FZO, sent recently a letter to Managing Director of Chabahar Free Zone Abdolrahim Kordi, declaring the approval of Chabahar port as a permanent member of the organization. The World FZO is a non-governmental, non-profit organization based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Chabahar, as a permanent member, enjoys the right to vote and can participate in the decisions of the organization.

Mohammad Miri, CEO advisor of the Chabahar Free Zone, told IRNA on Monday that free trade zones have played key role in boosting businesses particularly in crisis-hit situations.

Now, economies are grappling with critical effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, he said, adding that free trade zones can help countries save and repair their economy.

As a result of the accession to the World Free Zones Organization, the Chabahar Free Zone will be entitled to have access to all services and trainings of the organizations, the advisor said.

In 1950s, economists from Ireland came to an end that the then business atmosphere cannot pave the ground for economic development and growth; so, the world needs a new method for economic cooperation, he noted.

According to the official, the world has established several free trade zones to organize economic opportunities; therefore, there are nearly 5,000 sorts of free trade zones around the globe.

As to regional progress, he mentioned that the United Arab Emirates has set up 15 free trade zones since 1985.

The Chabahar Free Zone planned to be part of the World Free Zones Organization in order to enjoy successful experiences of other free trade zones, Miri said, adding that Chabahar succeeded in attaining the membership of the organization in 2021, because the United States' withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal postponed its membership.

Chabahar after Kish and Qeshm is the third free trade zone among eight FTZs in Iran, which has got the membership of the World Free Zones Organization so far.
