The working group on the Rimdan-Gabd Joint Free Zone, established under the framework of the 10th Iran-Pakistan Joint Trade Committee, officially commenced its meeting today (Monday) at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad. The session was chaired by Dr. Mohammad Saeid Arbabi, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the Chabahar Free Zone Organization, and attended by representatives of the relevant authorities from both countries. The meeting aims to operationalize the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the establishment of the Iran-Pakistan Joint Free Zone and finalize the cooperation document for signature by the Ministers of Commerce of the two countries.

According to the Public Relations Office of the Chabahar Free Zone Organization, the working group meeting, held within the framework of the 10th Iran-Pakistan Joint Trade Committee, focuses on identifying practical mechanisms for establishing the joint free zone, coordinating the required legal and technical arrangements, and finalizing the draft cooperation agreement to be signed by the Ministers of Commerce of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Islamabad.

Addressing the meeting, Dr. Mohammad Saeid Arbabi highlighted the growing economic cooperation between Iran and Pakistan along the Rimdan-Gabd border crossing. He noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran has taken significant steps toward activating the Rimdan Separate Zone, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Chabahar Free Zone, by providing the necessary initial infrastructure to facilitate trade, exports, imports, and cargo transit.

He further stated that the establishment of the Rimdan-Gabd Joint Free Zone will open a new chapter in bilateral economic cooperation by facilitating trade, attracting investment, developing shared infrastructure, and expanding commercial exchanges, thereby contributing to the realization of the two countries' shared economic objectives and strengthening bilateral relations.

Emphasizing the strategic importance of the Rimdan-Gabd corridor in connecting regional transport and trade corridors, Dr. Arbabi remarked that the proposed joint free zone is of strategic significance not only for Iran and Pakistan but also for the wider region. He expressed confidence that it has the potential to become one of the leading hubs for trade, transit, and economic cooperation across South Asia and Central Asia.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed various executive aspects of the proposed joint free zone and exchanged views on finalizing the cooperation document for submission and signature by the Ministers of Commerce during the 10th Iran-Pakistan Joint Trade Committee. The initiative marks a significant milestone in translating the economic agreements between Tehran and Islamabad into concrete action and further advancing strategic cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
